Sara Romine’s practice focuses on the protection of sensitive data. Sara’s representations range from the boardroom to the courtroom, providing clients with comprehensive business and legal strategies for protecting their most valuable assets.

Sara is an experienced litigator who excels in high-pressure situations. Sara routinely litigates “race to the courthouse” cases, including allegations relating to the theft or misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of covenants not to compete, confidentiality or non-disclosure agreements, and acts of digital piracy and computer fraud. In connection with her business litigation practice, Sara is experienced in the art of seeking and defending against temporary and permanent injunctive relief. She also routinely handles complex electronic discovery and internal investigations into computer crimes and acts of employee piracy. Outside the courtroom, Sara frequently drafts and reviews employment agreements, including non-competition, confidentiality, and non-disclosure agreements, and develops policies and procedures designed to safeguard business assets.

Sara routinely counsels and advises clients on data privacy and security issues, including compliance with state and federal laws governing the handling of protected health information, personal-identifying information, and financial information. She holds the Certified Information Privacy Professional credential for the US domestic sector from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). Sara assists clients in the development of internal policies and procedures relating to information governance and the collection, storage, and transmission of sensitive data. Sara also frequently assists in the negotiation and execution of third-party vendor contracts relating to the handling of valuable business data, including for storage, marketing, and other data analytics. In the area of data security, Sara advises clients on how to prepare for and respond to data breach incidents, and how to mitigate risks and liabilities going forward. She is a frequent speaker on topics relating to data privacy and security issues, and is an active member of the Sedona Conference’s Working Group 11 on Data Security and Privacy Liability. Sara is also a member of the North Texas InfraGard Members Alliance (a partnership between private business and the FBI) and the North Texas Crime Commission’s Cybercrime Committee.

In the area of business litigation, Sara has represented companies in fraud and fiduciary duty litigation, trademark infringement suits, breach of contract actions, and insurance and real estate disputes. She enjoys learning about her clients’ businesses and working with them to develop cost-effective solutions to legal problems and potential legal problems.
